Why email still matters most

Of everything in Chapter 3, email is the only channel where you own the relationship outright. A platform can change what your followers see. A search engine can change what ranks. Nobody can come between you and a list you own. For the kind of business we work with—long consideration periods, high trust requirements, a buyer who is not in market today but will be in eighteen months—a list of people who agreed to hear from you is the single most valuable asset the Send chapter builds.

The two kinds of work

Sends. A newsletter or a campaign email: copy, build, segmentation, testing, and dispatch. Most of your newsletters come out of the Voice-to-Market™ package rather than being written here. What lives in this piece is the send that is not derived from a recording—an announcement, an investor update, a campaign email. The first send for a new partner runs materially longer than the ones after it, because it includes building the template and the components everything afterward inherits. Sequences. Automated flows that run without anyone touching them: welcome series, onboarding, nurture. Brief, flow map, copy, build, triggers, and end-to-end testing. Five emails is our standard recommendation for a welcome sequence. The hidden half of any sequence project is connecting your email platform to your CRM, which is integration work and is quoted separately. A sequence with no trigger data behind it is a set of well-written emails nobody receives.

Sequences get reviewed, not set and forgotten.

We review a live sequence against its actual numbers monthly. Diagnose, revise, rebuild, retest. This matters because a sequence written before anyone has behaved is a hypothesis. The second email that everyone stops reading, the subject line that underperforms, the step where the timing is wrong—none of these are visible until real people move through it. An automation nobody has revisited in two years is usually costing you something.

What we need from you

A list you have permission to email, and honesty about its history. A list that has not been sent to in two years needs careful re-warming rather than a full send, and getting that wrong damages your domain’s ability to reach anyone. Working authentication on your domain, which we check as part of domain and hosting. Without it a share of everything you send does not arrive. A reviewer who can turn around a send quickly, since email is the piece most often tied to a date.
